February 8 – I will respectfully kiss my crucifix in the area of the Wounded Heart

In 1816 Father de Mazenod re-introduced the Confraternity of the Sacred Heart in Aix – a devotion that had been strong before the French Revolution and then destroyed. Already as a teenager he had shown his devotion:

“I will unite my insignificant acts of adoration with those of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, of the Angels and the Saints… I will respectfully kiss my crucifix in the area of the Wounded Heart”
